As fans continue to wait for Overwatch 2 to release its anticipated PvE mode, a developer at Blizzard has given an update on when more details could be revealed. Unfortunately, the update from the Overwatch 2 developer was not what many fans likely wanted to hear, even though it was probably what many expected.

Season 2 of Overwatch 2 is just around the corner, and Blizzard has started to reveal information about the soon-to-release update. Ahead of the launch of the new season, the company unveiled a schedule of forthcoming reveals for the game that would detail things like Ramattra, the newest tank hero, and a brand-new map for Overwatch 2. This reveal list made some fans wonder if there would be an update for the in-development PvE mode as well, causing one of the developers to respond.

In a recent tweet, the Executive Producer for Overwatch 2, Jared Neuss, commented on when Blizzard could give another update on the development of the PvE mode for the game. To begin with, the developer noted that the development team is currently working on the launch of Season 2 of Overwatch 2, writing they are “super focused” on that over the coming weeks. However, he stated that Blizzard would be talking about the PvE in the future, along with “other highly anticipated features.” Unfortunately, fans could be waiting a while before more news about the new mode is unveiled since the release of the new season is a high priority. Neuss ended the tweet by acknowledging that the answer was not “super satisfying” but said, “I honestly can’t say more.”

This news is no doubt disappointing for some fans hoping for more information about the mode ahead of the release of Season 2 of the team-based shooter. Fortunately, this tweet from Nuess did not mention the PvE mode being delayed further. Blizzard had previously noted that it is aiming to launch Overwatch 2‘s PvE in 2023. That being said, this tweet from the developer means the exact timing of that release next year remains to be seen.

While fans wait to hear more about PvE, many are hoping that the upcoming changes to the PvP side will improve the quality of the game. Ahead of the release of Season 2, the developer has teased changes to the hero balance, such as buffing weaker tanks and nerfing Sojourn. In addition, more tweaks to the ranking system are expected to be made in the coming days, along with improvements to the battle pass and progression systems. Time will tell if these changes will be enough to keep players engaged until a PvE component is eventually released, potentially next year.

Overwatch 2 is available in early access for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
